Pauline Helen Campbell

Pauline Helen Campbell has passed away peacefully at age 93. She was born to Paul Harold Brown and May Belle Redmond Brown on December 4, 1921 in Seabrook, Topeka, Kansas. She had a full and colorful life. Pauline married Leland V. Campbell of Auburn, Kansas in 1941. They lived through the great depression and his service in World War II. She had seven daughters and two sons. Due to her husband's military career, and later contract work, the family moved frequently. They lived mostly in California, and in the southern and plains states but also lived in Bermuda for 3 years. Pauline has expressed that her travels were one of the most interesting parts of her life.

After graduating from Washburn Rural High School she took some college classes at Emporia Teacher's college and later Wichita State University. She worked mostly as a typist in various industries but her favorite job was working for Josten's yearbook company in the art department. She was an avid reader who enjoyed novels and a wide range of subjects.

Pauline was a strong-willed and independent minded person who followed her own heart and conscience. She was a Christian in her youth, later converting to the Baha'i faith for a few years. In her later years she was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Topeka, Kansas.

Pauline was a loving caretaker who cared for her nine children, her mother-in-law Nora, her mother "Granny", her grandchildren and finally her ailing husband who passed away on July, 7th, 1997. She was also preceded in death by her brothers Kenneth Brown, Eugene Douglas Brown and Donald Brown.

Following her husband's death she continued to travel. She took a train trip around the country with her sister Maella and attended many weddings and family gatherings. In later years she lived at Babcock Place in Lawrence, Kansas where she enjoyed painting, needlework and playing scrabble. She was a member of the writings club and was beloved by all her fellow residents.

Mrs. Campbell is survived by daughters, Dr. Gwen Alexander and her children Karl Meyer, Kristine Weaver Meyer, Wendy Weaver Crist, her daughter Carolyn Chabot and her children Justin Hiller, Jason Hiller, Jennifer Chabot and Bryan Chabot, her daughter Susan Simpson and her children Kathy Black and Ben Simpson, her daughter Donna Taghdiri and her children Michele Guerra and Danny Guerra, her daughter Terri Evans and her children Nathaniel Evans and Alisha Evans, her daughter Debra Campbell and her children Eli Campbell, Chrissie Atchison, and Matt Hales, her daughter Tanya Hauck and her children Christopher Kiani and Lara Kiani, her son Roy Campbell and her son Lon Campbell and his children Andrea Wenger and Lee Campbell. Pauline's great- grandchildren include Ashley Smith, Nick Meyer, Lindsey Meyer, Kadie Martin, Colten Meyer, Kyleigh Crist, Emma Crist, Ryan Hiller, Kyle Hiller, Olivia Hiller, Aiden Chabot, Bronwen Black, Wylie Black, Miles Black, Gwen Black, Madeline Simpson, Brent Simpson, Liza Simpson, Brandon Guerra, Hayley Zirkel, Dallas Zirkel, Noah Wenger, Madison Weaver, Zoe Campbell, Roslyn Atchison, and John Atchison. Pauline's great-great grandchildren are Emery Smith, Trenton Meyer, Tripp Meyer, and Tucker Meyer. She is also survived by her sister Maella Flournoy.

Pauline's ashes will be buried next to her husband Leland at the Auburn, KS cemetery at 2pm on Sunday, June 7th. Her family will have a private get-together to celebrate her life.
