Peggy Marmet, 73, died October 19, 2012, with her family by her side in Topeka, Kansas.
Peggy was born July 28, 1939 in Lodi, California to Herman and Della Griebat. She graduated from Morrill High School in 1957 and attended Kansas State University where she received her Bachelor degree in Physical Education. She concluded her education with a Masters Degree in Physical Education from Emporia State University in 1977.
On June 16, 1962, she married Paul Marmet in Morrill, Kansas. Peggy began her career at Topeka West High School where she served as Physical Education instructor, head track coach and head gymnastic coach. Peggy continued her work as an educator at Washburn University where she was the head Gymnastics coach (1967-1972), head Track Coach (1977-1979) followed by head Men's and Women's tennis coach (1978-1999).
Peggy was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi (Kansas State University), Topeka Junior League, Central Congregational Church and Washburn Alumni Association. She was inducted into the Washburn University Hall of Fame in 1997 and the Topeka West Hall of Fame in 2000.
Peggy was bestowed many honors in her education and coaching career including the Monroe Award for Outstanding Achievement-Washburn University (2000), District 10 tennis coach of the year (1986, 89, 90), and MIAA ITA coach of the year (1997).
Peggy retired in January 1, 2000 and found the greatest joy in spending time with her grandchildren and orchestrating family vacations.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Marmet (Topeka); daughters Stacy (Scott) Lasswell of Emmett, KS; Nicole (Justin) Stuke of Shawnee, KS; two brothers, John Griebat of Wakarusa, KS, Jim (Lee) Griebat of Westminster, CO; sister-in-law Betty Griebat of Hiawatha, KS and four grandchildren, Sydney, Braden, Cassidy and Zane. She was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Griebat.
Visitation will be from 6-8p.m. Thursday, October 25, 2012 at Penwell-Gabel's Southwest Chapel, 3700 S.W. Wanamaker Road, Topeka, Kansas 66610
