Peter A. Gartner, 69, of Topeka, died Friday December 31, 2010 at Midland Hospice Care. He was born December 25, 1941 in Topeka, the son of Peter and Florence (Hoffman) Gartner.
Peter was raised in Topeka and attended Hayden High School. He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad and Bell Telephone Company before moving to Denver, CO in the 1960's. He returned to Topeka following his retirement over two years ago. He married Denise Gartner in Denver, CO.
He is survived by his wife, Denise; children, Ann Ridgeway (Paul), Gadsden, AL, Peter Gartner, Engelwood, CO, Michelle Martin, Arvada, CO, Michael Gartner, Arvada, CO; brothers, John Gartner (Darlene), Topeka, Philip Gartner (Sara), Benton, LA; sisters, Elizabeth Dick (Bill), Chandler, AZ, Natalie Bradford (Bobbie "Doc"), Topeka; grandchildren, Debra Ridgeway-Herndon, Daniel, and Emily Ridgeway; Rebecca Smith and Daniel Vincennie; Wesley and Keara Gartner; and four great-grandchildren, Gavin, Angus, Piper and Joshua.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Joseph; and infant grandson, Hayden.
Peter was a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Topeka. He enjoyed gardening, reading, model railroading, as well as car and airplane modeling. He also loved all auto racing.
Cremation is planned with inurnment at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice Care Benevolent Fund, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.
