Philip Ridgway, 85, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, August 20, 2020.
He was born on December 21, 1934 in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Leslie and Lola (Cochran) Ridgway. He attended Topeka High School. He later served in the Army National Guard.
Philip married Roberta Dacquet on December 31, 1955. He later married Roberta Ferlet on March 26, 1983 in Emporia, Kansas.
Philip was employed as a fireman for the city of Topeka for 26 years. After retirement as Captain of the Topeka Fire Department, Philip and his wife Roberta traveled a few years in their camper. Later they settled in Pryor, Oklahoma, where they attended the Nazarene Church there. The last three years they have been residing in Topeka.
Mr. Ridgway was a member of the Maranatha Baptist Fellowship. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and building things, including a church in Texas and the "round house" on 45th.
Survivors include his wife Roberta; son, Philip L. Ridgway (Nelly), Jr. of Florissant, CO; daughters Renee Jones (Terry) of Topeka and Diane Pharr of Cave Creek, AZ; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother David Ridgway of Topeka, sisters Naomi Wilmot of Topeka and Neta Ridgway of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife Roberta and sons Daniel and Rodney.
The family has chosen cremation. A graveside inurnment service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, September 5, 2020 at the Prairie Home Cemetery in Topeka, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to the IAFF Local 83 Honor Guard or the Topeka Fire Dept Ladies Auxiliary.
