Philip "Vernon" Riley, 88, of Tecumseh, passed away on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at his home. Vernon was born August 8, 1922 in Lecompton, to Henry P. and Edith E. (Taylor) Riley.
He was an Army veteran of WWII. He was a carpenter and worked for A.H. Pashman Construction for 40 years. He was a member of the Tecumseh United Methodist Church. Vernon married Mabel Schutz on January 17, 1942 in Ottawa, KS. She survives. Other survivors include one son, Philip E. Riley of Tecumseh and one sister, Helen Gerisch of Overbrook. Vernon was preceded in death by three sisters; Jane Bean, Henrietta Slusser and Laura Reed.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery southeast of Topeka. Memorial contributions may be given to the Tecumseh United Methodist Church, 334 SE Tecumseh Rd., Tecumseh, KS 66542.
