Philip Cooper Wilson, Jr., 81, Glenwood, IL, formerly of Topeka, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005 at a Chicago Heights Hospital.
He was born Feb. 28, 1923 in Topeka, the son of Philip Cooper and Phoebe Jenkins Wilson. He graduated from Topeka High School and attended Washburn University where he was in the marching band.
Mr. Wilson served in the US Army from 1943 to 1946 where he was awarded the American Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars, World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He had lived in the Chicago area since 1953.He retired in 1986 as the Secretary /Treasurer of Financial Relations Board in Chicago.
He was a member of St. John Episcopal Church, Flossmoor, IL and Philip Billard Post #1650 VFW in Topeka.
He married Betty J. Farrell on July 12, 1947 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Linda (Bill) Thomas and Lori Wilson, all of Glenwood, IL; a son, Larry Wilson and his wife Connie, Topeka; a sister-in-law Mary L. Remboldt, Topeka; a grandson and three great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday Feb. 9, 2005 at Penwell-Gabels Memorial Park Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by Philip Billard Post #1650 VFW.
