Phillip F. Lunn, 79, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, December 13, 2018.

Phil was born May 22, 1939, in Wheeler, Texas, the son of Grady and Maye Lunn and educated in Canadian, Texas. He began his 43-year railroad career with the Santa Fe Railway in 1955 at Amarillo in the superintendent's office. He transferred to the freight claim department there in 1965 and after holding various clerical positions, he was promoted to loss and damage investigator in 1970. He was named assistant chief clerk in 1974 and moved to Topeka as director freight claim procedures-system in 1976. In 1977, he was named assistant manager-freight claims at Amarillo and was subsequently transferred back to Topeka in 1978 in the same role until his retirement in 1999.

Phil also attended the University of Southern California-Institute of Business Economics and Management in 1980 and served as an arbitrator-freight claim division for the Association of American Railroads from 1979 through 1994.

Phil married Jan Francis on November 27, 1965 in Amarillo, Texas. She survives at the home; other immediate family survivors include a daughter, Shelby Bowen, Topeka; grandson, Jace Bowen, Topeka; and sister, Nachola Jeter, Amarillo. He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Wynell Moody, Pat Egan, Kem Lunn and Donna Nix.

Phil loved working in his yard and garden and was passionate about spending time with Jace teaching him how to fish, hunt, and to respect nature and the outdoors.

Honoring Phillip's request, cremation is planned. A memorial ceremony will be held at 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at the Dove Cremations and Funerals, Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka.
