Phyllis Joan Berry went to be with her lord on the 30th day of September 2022 at 4:06am. She was born in Allen County Kansas on February 25th, 1932, to Gilbert James and Bernice (Nelson) DeMeritt. Phyllis graduated from Moran High School in 1950. She then attended Clark Business School. Upon graduating from Clark Business School, she started working for the state of Kansas Department of Revenue, where she retired after 30 years. After retirement she returned to Iola to be with her mother, brother, and sister. Phyllis had 3 children.
Phyllis loved to go to garage sales and auctions looking for treasures. She loved to quilt and made several quilts and pillows to sell or give away. She also loved to sew and would generally finish off the projects her mother or sister had started and never finished. Phyllis had a love for cats - she had 2. She was a long-time member of the Seventh-day Adventist church.
Phyllis is survived by her three children, Virginia Berry of North Carolina; her son William (Bill) Berry and wife Louise of North Carolina; and son Paul Berry and wife Nichola of Missouri. She is also survived by one brother Everitt (Gene) DeMeritt and wife Delores of Kansas; one sister Audrey Wagner of Kansas; six grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents; sister Helen Parks; and her granddaughter Lisa Bragdon.
A celebration of life service will be held on October 7th, 2022 at 12pm at the Topeka Wanamaker Seventh-day Adventist Church with lunch to follow at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Seirra Shull and Dove Cremations and Funerals Southwest Chapel.
