Phyllis E. Knight

Phyllis E. Knight, 85, of Topeka, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2016 at a Topeka care facility. She was born February 17, 1931 in Lawrence, the daughter of Don and Lucy E. (Corwin) Peck.
Phyllis graduated from Topeka High School in 1949.
Phyllis was employed at the Forbes Air Force Base and the Volume Shoe Corporation until she and her husband owned and operated the Chick-A-Dee Cafe. They did this together for 25 years before retiring in 2001. She was a member of the Tecumseh United Methodist Church.
Phyllis married James N. "Jimmy" Knight in 1949 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on July 25, 2002. Survivors include a son, Randall K. (Melody) Knight of Topeka, one foster son, Darrell (Karen) Madison of Topeka, three grandchildren, Crystal, Amanda and Andrew, her sister, Joyce N. Diven of Topeka, two nieces, Tammy and Sandy and one nephew, Larry.
Phyllis will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 20, 2016 at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Private interment will take place in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Capper Foundation, 3500 SW 10th St., Topeka, Kansas 66604.
