Phyllis Irene Oshel

Phyllis Irene Oshel, 92, of Topeka, passed away on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at a Topeka hospital. She was born August 15, 1929 in Topeka, the daughter of John F. and Anna M. (Browning) Smith.

Phyllis graduated from Topeka High School in 1947. She was a homemaker. She and her husband served as Foster Parents. She was a member of the Topeka Church of the Brethren and was co-founder of North Topeka Outreach and the Olive Branch.

Phyllis married Clifford C. Oshel on December 4, 1949 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on September 8, 2011. She was also preceded in death by her grandson, Neil Jauken, her great-granddaughter, Sydney Clingan and her brother, William "Bill" Smith.

Survivors include children, Kathy (John) Reynolds, Charla (Eldred) Kingery, Lynnette (Gary) Abbott, Brian (Debi) Oshel, Johnathan (Misty) Oshel, fourteen grandchildren, forty-one great-grandchildren and her sister-in-laws, Betty Smith and Christine (Bob) Girvin.

As per Phyllis's wishes, she bequeathed her body to the University of Kansas Medical School for medical research. Private inurnment will take place at a later date. A Celebration of Phyllis's Life will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Camp Mt. Herman c/o the Topeka Church of the Brethren, 3201 NW Rochester Rd., Topeka, Kansas 66617.

Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. is assisting the family with service arrangements.
