Piper Lee McPherson, 63, of Topeka, passed away July 21, 2018. She was born in Lawrence, Kansas to Donald Stewart and Emma Jane (Kendall) Rayl on May 17, 1955. She was raised in Topeka and attended Highland Park and Shawnee Heights schools.
Piper married Ron Mewhinney. They were divorced. She married Jon Mareska. They were divorced. She was also married to and divorced from Ronnie McPherson.
Piper worked as a dog catcher for the Animal Control Unit of Topeka in 1979 and was a groomer for Berry Mobile Grooming Salon. She was then employed by USD 450, Shawnee Heights School District in security, as a bus driver and custodian for 27 years, retiring in June 2016.
Piper was a member of the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), Fur Friends Animal Rescue, Helping Hands Humane Society, and the Pit Bull Association. She enjoyed painting, planting flowers, fishing, making Casino runs with her step-dad Ben, riding horses and her dogs were always nearby.
Piper is survived by her daughter Emma (Mareska) Cruce, Emma's husband Jeff Cruce and their children Krista, Hayley and Aubrey; her sister Penny (Rayl) Payne, Penny's husband Danny Payne and their children Donny, Candy and Ina; her step-sisters: Lori Virt and Jan Madill, Jan's husband Marshall Madill; and her nephew Brendan.
She was preceded in death by her mother Emma Jane Rayl DeMoss (2015), father Donald Steward Rayl (2012), step-father Ben DeMoss (2018) and former spouses Jon Hersh Mareska (2017) and Ron Mewhinney (2004).
The Celebration of Life will be held from 6:30-8:30PM August 3, 2018 at Lake Shawnee Shelter House #3, Topeka, Kansas. Refreshments will be provided.
