R. W."Dick" Moore

R.W. "Dick" Moore, 89, passed away December 12, 2007 at a local hospital.

He was born April 8, 1918 at home, near Topeka, to Edward P. (Ted) and Grace Hoffmeister Moore. He attended Washburn High School when it was in MacVicar Chapel at Washburn University and graduated from Auburn High School.

Dick was a farmer and rancher all of his life in the Six Mile, Auburn, Burlingame and Harveyville communities. Besides his job, farming was also his hobby. He had lived within 2 miles of his birthplace all of his life until he moved to McCrite Plaza in 2005.

He was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church and a deacon for many years before his illness. He was president of the board of directors of Shawnee County Co-op for over 25 years and a member of the Wakarusa Watershed Board for the past several years. He was a past Master of Wakarusa Masonic Lodge and past Worthy Patron of Clarice chapter of Order of Eastern Star. He was a charter member of the McCrite Plaza Young at Heart Activity Club.

Dick married Florence Marsh on April 29, 1938. She died on January 24, 1991. He was also preceded in death by a son, Billy Moore, grandson, Scott Moore, brother, Dale Moore, and a special friend and companion, Opal Kramer who passed away in 1999. He is survived by a daughter; Kay Marie Sanders (Ron), Auburn; daughter-in-law, Louise Moore, Lake Charles, LA and a special faithful friend and companion, Margie Coffman, Topeka; grandchildren; Janet Duhy (Fred), Baton Rouge, LA, Ronni Sales (Tim), Leeta Rinehart (Mike), all of Topeka, and Richard Murray Moore, Lake Charles, LA; great-grandchildren, Sharon Duplachan, Lake Charles, LA, Scott Moore, Tulsa, OK, Scotty Rinehart, Ryan Rinehart and Sydney Sales, Topeka; great-great-grandchildren, Alex Moore, Jackson Moore and Gavin Hymes, Lake Charles, LA; sister, Alice Knight, Berryton; brother, Jeffrey Moore, Leawood, and many many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 17, 2007 at Faith Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Dick will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker, after 2:00 p.m. on Sunday and visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.
