Randal G. Trackwell, 67, passed away on Monday, March 17, 2014 at his home in Topeka. Randal was born in Topeka on November 8, 1946, son of Donald and Virginia Finley Trackwell. He graduated from Highland Park High School in 1965.
Randal served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1969 and was a Vietnam Veteran. He went on to earn a degree in criminal justice from Washburn University in 1982. He worked as a private investigator and later as a custodian. He was a member of the American Legion and attended the Central Congregational Church in Topeka. Randal was active in the Bull Moose / Progressive political party and ran for public office many times. His friends called him "The Mayor".
Randal is survived by a brother, Byron Trackwell; a nephew, Jonathan Trackwell; a niece, Melanie Bolinger; a half-brother Thomas J. Sabiston, Jr.; and a cousin, Peggy Humbert. A visitation will be held at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 29, 2014 with burial and military honors to follow on the Garden Chapel at Topeka Cemetery at Noon.
