Raymond J. Ehlinger, 66, Topeka, passed away Friday, August 8, 2014 at the Colmery-O'Neil V.A. Medical Center.
Ray was born November 11, 1947 in Cascade, IA., the son of Julien and Bessie (Sweeney) Ehlinger. He graduated from Maquoketa High School in 1966 and from Washburn University in 1998.
He retired from the U.S. Army after 18 years of service.
He was later employed as a Drug & Alcohol abuse counselor with Douglas County Citizen Committee on Alcoholism in both Topeka and Kansas City.
Ray married Joyce Ingalsbe on May 11, 1973 in Manhattan. They later divorced. She died November 12, 1999. Survivors include their children, Krystal (Sean) Schiemann, Ft. Smith, AR, Holly (Brad) Clark, Topeka, Sean (Tanya) Ehlinger, Colorado Springs, CO; mother, Bessie Ehlinger, Dubuque, IA; siblings, Kenneth Ehlinger, Connie Martin, Anne Block, Richard Ehlinger, Dale Ehlinger, Donald Ehlinger, Norma Simonson, Ronald Ehlinger; and 15 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father; daughter, Nicole Ehlinger; and sister, Kathy Green.
Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
