Refugia Hernandez, 82, of Topeka died Monday, April 26, 2004 at her residence. She was born July 4, 1921 in Silao, Guanaguato Mexico, the daughter of Jesus and Teresa Peinado Peres. She was a homemaker. She came to Topeka in 1959. She was a member of Our Lady Of Guadalupe Catholic Church and the Alter Society. She married Julian Hernandez. He survives. Other survivors include two sons: Gabino Hernandez of California and Pedro Hernandez of Topeka, one daughter; Esperanza Burns-Carter of Topeka, 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Mrs. Hernandez will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Highland Chapel where the Alter Society will recite at rosary at 6:00 p.m. and a Parish Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Our Lady Of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Penwell-Gabel Highland Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
