Reta J. Mccarty

September 26, 1951 — July 14, 2015

Reta McCarty 63 of Shawnee, Oklahoma passed away peacefully on July 14th, 2015.

She was born September 26th, 1951 in Norman, Oklahoma and was the daughter of the late Joe Lucas, Al and Reba Gentilcore. She had many siblings and step siblings that included Jeanie Lucas Oliver, Raye Lynn Lucas Corwin,
Tony Gentilcore; as well as Connie Jo Scarbrough, Terri Workman, Brett Towne, Bart Towne, Kelly Towne Walker. She was preceded in death by Rhonda Sipes, and her favorite Uncle Archie Lucas.

She attended grade school in Spaulding, Oklahoma and high school at Star Spencer and Putman City High. She would go on to marry her childhood crush Patrick McCarty on March 14, 1969 and have 3 children, Laura Snow of Tonganoxie, Ks, Bethany McCarty of Topeka, Ks, and Ryan McCarty of McAlister, Ok. They later divorced and she spent the rest of her years with her life partner Michael Jacobson.

She was a loving Nana to her three grandchildren Hali VanWinkle, Dylan Hunter, and the late Owen Renbarger. She enjoyed giving back to others and in the 80s and 90s she worked in education at Wesley United Methodist Church. She loved the field of medicine and worked in various health care settings over the years and most recently retired from St. Anthony's Pain Management Clinic in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Prior to illness she engaged in many social activities and found pleasure in spending time with family and friends. She had a variety of hobbies from gardening, sewing, and everything crafty to bowling, playing games, and she even dabbled in karate. Reta was a devoted sister, mother, and grandmother with compassion for everyone. She was opinionated and quick witted. You always knew where you stood with her and if ever in need of a laugh you were guaranteed to get one from her.
