Reverend Loren Dayle Schroeder, 91, of Maple Hill, Kansas passed away on March 29, 2016. He was born in Beverly, Kansas on April 2, 1924. He was preceded in death by his parents Henry Theodore and Flossie Ann (Roath) Schroeder, and his older brother Everton Theodore. He spent his childhood in Beverly and the countryside of Lincoln County and recalled days exploring with friends and cousins. Upon graduating high school, Loren entered Kansas State University in 1942 but his education was interrupted by World War II and he joined the Navy in 1943 and served in the Pacific. He returned to KSU where he graduated in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering and played football for the Wildcats.
Loren met the love of his life when he spotted "a pretty nurse" during a stay in the hospital and married Betty Joan Bean in Nashville on December 31, 1949. They settled in Washington DC where Loren worked at the Naval Research Laboratory. Loren enrolled at McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago where he received a Masters of Divinity in 1956. He served as a Presbyterian minister in Iowa and Minnesota. Loren returned to Kansas in 1975 to train at the Menninger Foundation and served as a chaplain in the Topeka area until his retirement in 1989.
After his retirement, Loren and Betty hiked the Appalachian Trail as the Kansas Kids. Loren enjoyed his outdoor adventures and travels around the United States to visit children and grandchildren. He was a great supporter of the K-State women basketball team.
Loren was a kind and compassionate soul, a loving and devoted husband and father. Loren counseled and aided many people throughout his long life, and he will be greatly missed.
Loren is survived by his loving wife, Betty, three sons and spouses Mark (Laurel), Kirk (Carol), Kevin (Clare), and daughter Gina Carpenter (Jeff); eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
