William (Bill) Henry Winter, 86, of Topeka, KS, a clergy member, died Monday, April 20, 2015, at his home in Aldersgate Village Assisted Living, Topeka, KS. He was born September 17, 1928, in Truxton, MO, the third of five sons born to Martin F. and Bertha Winter.

William graduated from Warrenton High School, in Warrenton, Missouri. He attended Central Methodist College in Fayette, Missouri; the Missouri School of Religion, in Columbia, Missouri; and was a member of the first class to graduate in 1962 from St. Paul's School of Theology, in Kansas City, Missouri.

William was licensed to preach by Zion Methodist Church, Truxton, MO on April 9, 1948. In Missouri, he was assigned to the Mineola Circuit (five rural Missouri churches) the Madison, Missouri charge which consisted of three churches; Jamestown, and Wright City.

He moved to Kansas in 1961, serving churches in Reading, Miller, Axtell, Vermillion, Burlington, Waterville, Blue Rapids, Ozawkie, Oskaloosa, Madison, and Ebenezer, retiring in 1991. After retirement to a farm in Ottumwa, Kansas, he worked 15 years for Coffey County Recycling. He also had Bill's Handyman Service helping many elderly persons in the Burlington area.

He enjoyed gardening, camping, working with Scouts and 4-H Groups. He also was a member of the Lion's Club and Rotary International. He took many parishioners on pilgrimages to the Holy Land.

He was married to Leona Denise Meyer on August 12, 1952 in Truxton, Missouri.

Surviving are his wife, Leona, of the home; children Deborah Jean Winter (Tim Slagle) and Diana Joy Winter, all of Kansas City, Kansas; two brothers, J.D. Winter (Ruth) St. Charles, MO; and Glenn Winter (Barbara) Truxton, MO; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Arban Winter and Oliver Winter.

Memorial services will be at 1:00 PM, Saturday, June 20, 2015, at Suzanna Wesley United Methodist Church, 7433 SW 29TH Street, Topeka, KS. William's body has been donated to the Willed Body program at the University Of Kansas Medical Center.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Suzanna Wesley United Methodist Church.

A choir will participate in the memorial service and will rehearse at 12:30 PM at the church If you would like to join the choir, contact Debbie Winter at 913-226-0053 for more information.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's School of Theology, UMCOR, or Camp Chippewa.
