Reverend Dr. Arno H. Meyer, 72, Topeka, passed away on Friday, February 11, 2011 at his residence.
Dr. Meyer was born October 25, 1938 in Durango, Colorado, the son of Arno C. and Bertha C. (Lueking) Meyer.
He graduated from St. Paul's High School in Concordia, Missouri in 1956, Concordia Senior College in Ft. Wayne, Indiana in 1960, Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri in 1964, and received his Doctor of Ministry from the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago in 1988.
He married Nina M. Propst on June 2, 1962 in Jefferson City, Missouri.
Following his ordination in 1964, he spent nine years as a missionary in Taiwan, then as pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Alta Vista, Kansas before moving to St. Andrew's in Wichita, Kansas and then to Topeka. He moved to Topeka in 1987 to start a mission congregation which became Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. He retired from full time ministry in 2003. Following his retirement, he served as a vacancy pastor in Littleton, Colorado and at Clay Center and the Fairview/Hiawatha congregations in Kansas.
In addition to his wife Nina, survivors include son, Andrew P. Meyer, Webster Groves, Missouri, and grandchildren, Emily Rude, Seattle, Washington, and Margaret Kennedy, Topeka. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sara C. Kennedy in 1999.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. Inurnment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road.
