Rex (Dallas) Steward

December 22, 1934 — March 29, 2025

Topeka

Dallas Rex Steward, a beloved family man, devoted Air Traffic Controller, and avid outdoorsman, passed away on March 29, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on December 22, 1934, in Clay Center, Kansas, Rex lived a life full of dedication, hard work, and joyous moments surrounded by those he loved.

After serving in the Navy, Rex embarked on a career as an Air Traffic Controller, where he devoted over 22 years to ensuring the safety of countless travelers in the skies. After getting off work he loved to pick his daughters up from home and take them to the lake. Known for his caring nature and sense of humor, he was a jokester who could light up a room with his laughter. Rex's commitment extended beyond his professional life, as he was also a hardworking builder, crafting homes where families could create their own memories.

Throughout his life, Rex cherished the simple pleasures: summer fish fry gatherings at home, cookouts filled with laughter, and precious time spent with family and friends. He was a fan of golf and fishing, often found building furniture and cabinets. In winter, he cherished his trips to Arizona, where he enjoyed the warm sun and golfing with friends.

Rex is survived by his loving wife, Beverly Jo Steward, with whom he shared 35 wonderful years of marriage. He was a proud father to his daughters Denice (Dennis) Bundy, Stefanie (Steve) Woods.

Debra (Barry) Chesebro, and Susan Snepp, as well as his son, Terry (Karen) Gingrich and many Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. Each member of his family holds dear memories of his caring presence and spirited personality.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joni Shields, with whom he shared 29 years, as well as son Randy Gene, daughter Terri Ann, son-in-law, Larry Snepp, sister Aileen Mall and his parents, Harry and Ella Steward. Their memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Rex Steward leaves behind a legacy woven with the threads of laughter, love, and the joy of being surrounded by family. He will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all whose lives he touched.
