Rex E. Simmonds, 73, Topeka, passed away Sunday, December 8, 2013. He was born July 16, 1940, in Agra, Kansas, the son of Albert and Rosa (Schoonover) Simmonds.
Rex worked with the Kansas Industries for the Blind in Topeka for over 30 years. He was a member of the Kansas Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired. He enjoyed making candles and working in the yard. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.
Rex married Ruby L Simmonds on October 18, 1963 in Topeka, Kansas. She survives. Also surviving are his children, Larry A. (Kate) Clouse, Delmont, SD; Kenneth L. (Kay) Simmonds, Pendleton, SC and Rick D. Simmonds, Topeka; his brothers, Jim and Dick Simmonds; grandchildren, Jerimiah McAlister, Danny Simmonds, Faye LeAnn Simmonds and Hannah Rose Simmonds. He was preceded in death by his brothers, George, Jerry, Kenny, Walter LaVon and Linden Simmonds and sister, Alberta Tuxhorn.
Funeral services will be 11 am, Saturday, December 14, 2013 at the Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.
