Richard E. "Dick" Hayes, 88, Topeka, passed away Sunday, September 7, 2014 at a care center in Nortonville.
Dick was born July 15, 1926 in Mt. Ayr, IA, the son of Loren and Madeline (Reynolds) Hayes. He graduated from Mr. Ayr High School and attended Washburn University.
He served as a Weather Technician with the U. S. Air Force for 20 years, retiring in 1964 with the rank of Technical Sergeant.
He was a member of Orient Lodge #51, AF&AM.
Dick married Alice Sorensen on July 2, 1948 in Bellevue, NE. Survivors include his wife of 66 years; daughters, Tina Hayes, Joan Schultz, Carol (Bruce) Oliver, all of Topeka; grandchildren, Trey Schultz, Portland, OR, Eleanor Holt, Lawrence, Kaylee Oliver, Manhattan; great-grandson, Evander Holt; and brother, George Hayes. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, John Hayes.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at the Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota. Burial will follow at Topeka Cemetery.
