Richard L. Kinder, 86, of Topeka, KS, died on December 8, 2017 at a local hospital.
He was born on August 13, 1931 in Topeka, KS to Clarence and Clara (Fenwick) Kinder. He married Joyce I. Godby on September 5, 1959 in Delavan, IL. She survives. Other survivors include brother, Gerald "Bud" Kinder (Cecilia), of Topeka, KS; two nephews, Randal L. Kinder (Marsha) of Salina, KS, and Daniel D. Kinder (Malesa) of Topeka, KS; and a niece, Vicky L. Nelson (Kevin), of Topeka, KS.
Mr. Kinder graduated from Topeka High School, Washburn University, and the graduate school at Syracuse University. He was a member of Alpha Delta Fraternity at Washburn University.
Capt. Kinder served in the United States Air Force as a pilot of C-124 Globemasters, participating in both Operation Dew Line and Deep Freeze at the South Pole.
He was Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Keystone Consolidated Industries in Peoria, IL, and General Sales Manager at Chicago Heights Steel in Chicago Heights, IL.
During his career he was a member of the Compus Committee of the American Iron and Steel Institute, American Hardware Manufacturers' Association, Sales and Marketing Executives International. He retired from the Steel Industry in 1985 after 27 years.
The family will receive friends during a visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 37th & Wanamaker Road. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery & Mausoleum, 6th & Gage.
