Richard L. Ramey was born on January 19, 1942, in Louisiana, Missouri, the son of Franklin Joel Ramey and Elizabeth Rose Zumwalt Ramey. He left the arms of his loving wife and daughters, August 31, 2017, after a long, hard struggle with heart, lung and kidney disease.
He met the love of his life, Judith Brown Taylor at Harveyville, Kansas, in May of 1973. They were married November 9, 1973. She survives at home.
His very devoted daughters, Deb, Mary and Katie survive. Also surviving are sons Rick, Jason and their spouses along with several grandchildren, great grandchildren, loving brother-in-law Bob, niece Nicole and nephew Kevin and their children. He was a special friend and "dad" to Kim, Brenda, Michelle, Julie and many others.
Sisters Shirley, Donna, and Margaret preceded him in death. One sister Doris survives.
His life work was in education. He served as football coach in Missouri and Kansas and since, 1975 as a high school administrator at Mission Valley High School and Shawnee Heights High School. He was a graduate of Park Hill High School in Missouri, Missouri Valley College, Marshall, Missouri where he was an outstanding athlete. He received a master's degree in school administration from Emporia State University, Emporia Kansas.
He loved hunting, camping, boating and fishing. Dick and Judy lived for the times they could be with family and friends. They could be found often at Pomona and Beaver Lakes. They lived life large. There are numerous cherished stories about those wonderful times because of their hard work. These memories will live on in the many lives he touched.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road. A reception and visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, September 4, 2017 at the funeral home. Private family interment will be in the Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
