Richard Kenneth Scoby

August 24, 1943 — October 7, 2017

Richard K. Scoby, 74, of Sabetha passed away on October 7, 2017. Born August 24, 1943, in Sabetha, he was the son of Kenneth and Alma Grace (Worwag) Scoby.

He was a graduate of Sabetha High School after which he continued his education at the Kansas State Teachers College where he received his Bachelors of Science in Education.

He was a lifelong farmer which included having his own dairy farm, followed by 15 years as the manager of the Kansas State dairy herd. He also taught school for a number of years and was a salesman for Semex.

Richard married Sharlotte Weick on June 7, 1964 at the Congregational Church in Sabetha.

He loved and enjoyed his family above all else. His hobbies included hunting, gardening and KState football. Richard took great pride in watching his children and grandchildren play sports and keeping track of their many activities. He could tell you the days and the times of every single game….and the statistics too, no matter how long ago it was. Richard loved to visit about family, farming and politics and would occasionally step on some toes.

He is survived by his wife, three children; Holly (Brad) Snyder, Heather (Doug) Lehwald and Craig (Jodie) Scoby, eight grandchildren; Trent (Cristina) Snyder, Shayna (Kevin) Heideman, Travis (Laura) Snyder, Trae Snyder, Cole Lehwald, Ellie Scoby, Abbie Scoby, Ethan Scoby and three great-granchildren; Tenley Heideman, Bentley Heideman, and Bennett Heideman, three siblings; Elaine (Warren) Phillips-Stork, Linda (Phil) Ginter and Janet (Dan Sanderson) Emert and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00a.m. Friday, October 13, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church, 806 Main St, Sabetha, KS 66534. Graveside inurnment will follow at Albany Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00p.m. on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at the church.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1315 SW Arrowhead Rd, Topeka, KS 66604, Gideons International, P.O. Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214-0800, Nemaha County Home Health and Hospice, Sabetha, KS.
