James Robert "Rob" Wilson, 54, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2024.
He was born July 25, 1970, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of James and Aletha (Heusted) Wilson. He was a 1988 graduate of Highland Park High School. He served in the United States Navy stationed on the USS Carl Vinson CVN-70. He was an Operations Specialist dealing in surface and air radar during Desert Storm until being honorably discharged in 1991. He later served in the United States Army Reserve.
Rob worked for the Kansas State Department of Corrections in El Dorado and Topeka, KS. He later became a Police Officer for the City of Topeka for 20 years until retiring. After retirement he was employed by the Topeka Womens Correction Facility.
He was a member of Highland Park United Methodist Church and Fraternal Order of the Police in Topeka.
Rob married Cheri (McDonald) Quanstrom on July 24, 2023 in Durango, CO. She survives in Topeka. Other survivors include his two children, Paige Wilson of Topeka and Raef Wilson of Topeka; his granddaughter, Rylee Maxville; his sister, Christine (Sherick) Saunders of Topeka; his nieces, Brianna Saunders and Taylor (Cade) Johnson and their daughter, Evie; his nephews, Colin Baldwin and Jordan Saunders; and his cousins, Amanda (Mark) Foltz and Branden (Crystal) Heusted and their children.
Rob loved his family and KU Basketball. He was an amazing cook who enjoyed the mountains, watching the Blue Angels fly, and tinkering. He was a self-taught genius relating to fixing anything mechanical. His other interests included science, trivia, and watching the History Channel. The Fourth of July was his favorite holiday. He was also an avid Kansas City Royals and Chiefs fan.
Cremation is planned. A celebration of life ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Highland Park United Methodist Church, 2914 SE Michigan Ave, Topeka, KS 66605. Dove Cremations & Funerals, Southeast Chapel in Topeka is assisting the family.
