Robert D. Lester, 54, of Topeka, passed away on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at a Topeka hospital surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born May 16, 1957 in Topeka, the son of Delbert and Ethel Morgan Lester. He was a custodian for the Shawnee County Courthouse for 21 years before retiring in 2004.
Robert married Mabeline L. Scofield on April 19, 2003. She survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Teresa (Sam) Reilly of Topeka, two grandchildren, Alicia and Sam, Jr., three brothers, Jim Long of Bennington, KS, Paul Lester and Melvin Lester, both of Scranton. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Carl Lester, Ray Lester and Lonnie Lester.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Robert will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the KSU Cancer Center, 1 Chalmers Hall, Manhattan, KS 66506.
