Robert E. "Bob" Horton, 84, of Topeka, passed away on Thursday, July 12, 2012.
He was born January 1, 1928 in Topeka, the son of Archie A. and Ruth A. Foster Horton. He was the first baby born in Topeka in 1928.
Bob graduated from Highland Park High School, where he was selected as the first Homecoming King in November, 1945. Bob worked for Fleming Food Companies where he drove a truck for nearly 47 years. Bob was an avid sports fan and especially loved the Kansas State Wildcats. He loved working in his yard and garden. Bob was a dedicated family man and devoted his life to his wife, children and grandchildren.
He married Lora "Maxine" Watson on October 18, 1957 in Lebo, KS. She survives. Other survivors include their two children, Susan (Jim) Mowder, Bob (Janeen) Horton, three grandchildren, Adam Mowder, Audrey Horton and Trey Horton, and three brothers, Vernon Horton, Dean Horton and Dale Horton. Bob was preceded in death by his two brothers, William Horton and Wayne Horton.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Please feel free to wear K-State gear or purple if you wish. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Bob will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 5:30-7:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
