Robert E. Wilson
Robert E. Wilson, 82, of Topeka, passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at a Topeka care facility. He was born July 3, 1928 in Topeka, KS, the son of Harrison E. and Ethel J. Howey Wilson.
Robert was a Navy Veteran of WWII. He was employed by Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company for 46 years before retiring in 1992. He was a member of the V.F.W., Capitol Post No. 1 of the American Legion, the Perry Square Dance Club for 23 years, the Twilight Twirlers of St. Marys, the Cap-Teens and was a member of the Topeka-Tecumseh Volunteer Fire Department for 32 years.
Robert married Rosalie Hammond on June 17, 1951 in Topeka. She preceded him in death on August 28, 2010. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Allen Wilson in 1956 and Robert "Mike" Wilson in 2005. Survivors include three daughters; Deena (Daniel) Dehncke, Marcia (Donald) Wilson and Shelline Smoot, all of Topeka, 15 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, his four sisters and his sister-in-law.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Robert will lie in state after 1:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Midland Care Hospice House, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.
