Robert F. McConnell, 85, of Topeka, died Thursday, December 29, 2011 at Midland Hospice Care. He was born February 18, 1926 in Kansas City, KS the son of Frank J. and Elizabeth (Hirsch) McConnell.
Bob was raised in Kansas City, KS and graduated from Ward High School in 1944. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1946. Bob married Rose Yacmenovic on August 10, 1946 in Kansas City, KS. They spent most of their married life in Overland Park and Bob worked for Ford in the auto business for over 40 years serving as a General Manager for many years before retiring in 1986. Bob and Rose spent 7 years in Arizona before moving to Topeka. Bob was a lifetime member of the VFW Post # 1650, serving on the Honor Guard for 11 years, the American Legion Post 400, the Moose Lodge #555, and Christ the King Catholic Church.
Bob is survived by his wife Rose, daughter, Susan Crawford (Joe), Topeka; son Robert W. McConnell (Susan), Chapel Hill, NC; three grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Jeanette Marciniak.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 2nd at Christ the King Catholic Church in Topeka. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 3rd, at Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa, KS. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.
