Robert J. "Fats" Fairchild, Sr, 81, of Topeka, passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2006 at Aldersgate Village with family members by his side, after a long illness.
Fats served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was involved in battles in Okinawa and Luzon. He was an auto refinisher and had worked at various car dealerships in Topeka. Fats retired in 1981.
He was an avid outdoorsman .
He married Dorothy Dean Schwalie on February 15, 1943 in San Diego. She survives. Other survivors include two sons; Douglas Fairchild, Wakarusa and Christopher Fairchild, Kansas City, MO; two daughters, Gloria Wilson and Cynthia Pinkley, both of Topeka; four Grandchildren; eight Great Grandchildren; and four sisters. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert "Buffalo" Fairchild, Jr. and 2 great grandsons.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 23, 2006 at Newcomer Family Funeral Home.
