Robert E. Geers, 79, Topeka, passed away on Monday, August 27, 2007 at a local hospital.
Bob was born May 20, 1928 in Edwardsville, Illinois. He was raised by his grandparents, Walter and Mary Geers.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was a graduate of Oklahoma State University.
Bob was employed by the Florist Mutual Insurance Company in Edwardsville, Illinois. He moved to Topeka in 1970 and was a Vice-President of regional sales for Security Benefit Life Insurance Company. He later worked for OFG Financial Services, retiring in 1991.
He was an advocate and lobbyist for the Topeka Association for Retarded Citizens.
Bob married Virginia Engelke in 1951. She died in 1981. He later married Lois Jean Anguish in 1993. She survives. Other survivors include sons, Peter Geers, Shawnee, Bennet Geers, Topeka; two grandchildren; step-son, James Anguish, Topeka; step-daughter, Carolyn Anguish, Topeka; and three step-grandchildren.
Bob will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 30, 2007 and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 1, 2007 at the Valley View Cemetery in Edwardsville, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to T.A. R.C., 2701 SW Randolph, Topeka, Kansas 66611.
Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel is in charge of Topeka arrangements and Weber & Rodney Funeral Home will be in charge of Edwardsville, Illinois arrangements.
