Robert Gene Jacobs, 87, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, February 12, 2011 at Midland Hospice House surrounded by his loving family and angels. Bob was born in Norfolk, NE on July 14, 1923 to Elmer D. & Mae Burnham-Jacobs. He attended school at Norfolk, Osawatomie and Paola, KS.
He worked in the defense industry in Portland, OR during WWII, worked with his father in the furniture upholstering business in San Bernardino, CA. and later worked for Henry Mfg. Co. and Allis Chalmers in Topeka until he retired August 1, 1985. He was an avid baseball fan and umpired baseball for 17 years. Bob was known as Cobra Man by his CB radio friends. He was a proud member of the Golden Rule Lodge #90 AF&AM for 61 years.
Bob married Carol Snook on April 7, 1978 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Alana Jacobs; grandsons, Ryan Dauner and Corey Mzhickteno and one great -granddaughter, Lillyan Mzhickteno, his siblings; Dale Jacobs, William Jacobs, Nancy Asborn, Shirley McNickle and Jeanene Buchanan, and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Julie McNickle and Eileen Thompson for their loving presence during this time.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Private inurnment will take place in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.
