Robert Harold "Bob" Ragan, 85, Topeka, passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at Stormont-Vail Hospital.
Bob was born December 2, 1928 in Burlington, OK, the son of Virgil H. and Lillian (Meister) Ragan. He graduated from Kiowa High School in Kiowa, KS in 1946. He received his Bachelors degree in 1957 and his Masters degree in 1965 from Emporia State Teachers College.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne.
He taught High School Business classes in Geneseo, El Dorado and Hoisington, KS. He became a Principal at Geneseo High School, and Superintendent of Schools in Argonia, KS. In 1979, he moved to Garden City School District where he served as Assistant Superintendent in charge of Finance. He then served as Assistant Superintendent of Shawnee Heights School District where he was in charge of Finance, until retirement in 1993.
He was a member of Shawnee Heights United Methodist Church, and the American Legion. He volunteered at the Colmery-O'Neil V.A. Medical Center for the past 21 years.
Bob married Clara Jean Fairbanks on May 26, 1955 in Kiowa, KS. She survives. Other survivors include daughters, Sandra (Jerry) Taylor, Longmont, CO, Marilyn (Darrel) Mainz, Topeka; sons, Robert (Ann) Ragan, Wichita, Ronald (Becky) Ragan, High Point, NC; grandchildren, Ragan (Lance) Willmann, Jessica Mainz, Jason Ragan, Kelli Ragan, Sean Ragan, Sara Ragan, Scott Ragan; and great-granddaughter, Elsie Willmann. He was preceded in death by a brother, Clyde Ragan; and sister, Lois Perry.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 21, 2014 at Shawnee Heights United Methodist Church. Inurnment will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Kiowa at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2014. The family will receive friends at the Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, November 20, 2014
