Robert J. "Bob" Oyler, 87, of Topeka, passed away in the arms of Christ on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. He was born on May 9, 1920 in Maxwell, IA, the son of Clifford and Iva Halterman Oyler. He lived in Topeka since 1950. Mr. Oyler retired from the Topeka Fire Department as Chief Arson Investigator and then from Stratton Hardware. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Topeka. Bob married Dorothy M. Kuehnert in 1941. She preceded him in death in 1965. He married Bonnie L. DeWitt in 1966. She preceded him in death in 1993. Bob was also preceded in death by one son, Michael Oyler and sisters, Nancy Cox and Kathleen Green. Survivors include son; Gary Oyler and wife, Suzanne of Topeka, daughter; Karen Lenz and husband, Tom of Liberty, MO, a daughter-in-law; Bertha Oyler of Sheboygan, WI, step-daughters; Sandra Stockwell of Pratt, KS, Vickie Gill of Nortonville, KS, Starla Geisler of Topeka, Shayla Swann of Carrolton, TX, step-sons; Ronnie Sprague of Paxico, KS and Randy Sprague of Alta Vista, KS and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Oyler was cremated. Private inurnment will take place in Mount Hope Cemetery. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. John's Lutheran Church, 901 S.W. Fillmore, Topeka, KS 66606. Newcomer Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
