Robert K. Stanton, 93, of Topeka, formerly of Port Ritchey, FL and Pittsfield, MA, passed away Monday, October 21, 2013. He was born February 16, 1920, in Chesterfield, Massachusetts, the son of Wilbur and Alice (Durkee) Stanton.
Robert served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater aboard an Aviation Oil and Gas Tanker as a Motor Machinist's Mate 2nd Class, during World War II.
Robert was employed for 40 years with General Electric's Transformer Divisions and Ordinance Division as a designer/draftsman and electromechanical engineer. He retired in 1980 and was recognized for his accomplishments on many projects including; transformer load ratio control, missile inertial guidance, Gemini fuel cells, heavy metal load robotic arms, and weapons optical alignment. He also was a licensed real estate broker.
Robert married Olive Ferry on September 4, 1943 at Pittsfield, MA. She preceded him in death on April 21, 2004. He is also preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Norman Stanton; and a sister, Ruth Bonnington. Survivors include a son, Alan R. Stanton (Christine), Topeka; daughter, Nancy E. Stanton, Waltham, MA; grandsons, Glenn Fink, Herndon, VA, Adrian Fink, Waltham, MA, and Aaron Shaffer, Topeka.
Robert was a member of the V.F.W., International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (AFL-CIO), and the Unitarian Universalist Church of Pittsfield. He enjoyed fishing, rock hunting, electronics, playing card games and being a home handyman.
Robert was cremated. A memorial ceremony will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, November 8, 2013 at Leavenworth National Cemetery in Leavenworth, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to the V.F.W.
