Robert Harold Knight

Robert Harold Knight, Topeka, Kansas, died peacefully March 4, 2021 at the age of 96. Bob was born in Anthony, Kansas November 4, 1924, to Harry and Gertrude Knight. He has a sister, Betty, who survives him.

Bob served in the infantry in World War II. He fought in The Battle of the Bulge and other battles and was awarded a Purple Heart and a Presidential Unit Citation, the highest honor bestowed on any non-individual.

After the war, Bob was stationed in upstate New York, and met Marion Brickle on a blind date. They married August 1, 1953 in Fairport, N.Y., and were married more than 67 years. She survives.

Bob received his architecture degree from Kansas State in 1950, and shortly thereafter established his own practice in Topeka. He was especially proud of designing King Hall and Throckmorton Hall at Kansas State, and Lee Arena on the Washburn campus, among many other buildings.

In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by daughter Lisa (Chuck) Cool, Topeka, Gary (Mary), Denver, and Jonathan (Judi Bauer), Kansas City, as well as seven grandchildren, Kelly Cool Keele, Kristin Cool Kirkwood, Allyson Knight Kurtz, Patrick Knight, Jonathan Knight, Willa Knight and Miles Knight, four great-grandchildren, Rylin and Kraton Kirkwood, Sam and Collin Kurtz.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 5, 2021 at the First Congregational Church. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.
