Robert L. Banion, 83, died Saturday, September 29, 2007 peacefully at home. He was born in Burbank, Oklahoma on July 13, 1924 to the late Elmer L. and Vena Banion.
Bob began his career with the Santa Fe Railroad in 1943 as a station agent in Wakarusa, Kansas. During his career with the railroad he held a number of positions in locations that included Iowa, California, New Mexico, Illinois and Oklahoma before retiring in 1987 in Topeka as General Manager for Santa Fe's Eastern Lines. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Topeka where he served as Elder and member of various committees. After his retirement Bob was Treasurer of the first TPAC Board and also served on the boards for both the Girls and Boys Club and the Topeka Civic Theater.
Bob is survived by his wife of 60 years, Melba Jones Banion of Topeka; his children: Sharron and Bob Jordan of Clovis, New Mexico, Linda Siebenthall of Lawrence and Mark and Phyllis Banion of Dana Point, California; his sister Sue Bussard of Topeka and 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 2 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka, KS 66614. Funeral services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Topeka on Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. followed by burial at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery & Mausoleum.
