Robert L. Lingard passed away on September 4, 2011 at Midland Care Hospice after a long illness. Robert was born in Ottawa, Kansas on December 30, 1932 to Robert L., Sr. and Doris (Pearson) Lingard. He grew up on a farm in the Princeton, Kansas area.
Bob graduated from Princeton High School in 1950. He attended Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado, graduating with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Education. Bob taught in Colorado for eleven years then received his Master's degree from the University of Wyoming in Education. He was a counselor for two years in Atchison, Kansas and 29 years at Washburn Rural High School, retiring in 1998. Bob was chosen Teacher of the Year while teaching in Colorado. He was active in his church teaching adult Sunday school classes and serving on the boards while in Colorado.
Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a strong role model for his children and grandchildren spending many hours with them.
Bob is survived wife Janice Weatherill Lingard of 55 years. They have three children: Peggy Lingard, Sacramento, CA; Karen (Ron) Bledsoe, Topeka and Steven (Sharlis) Lingard, Topeka; nine grandchildren: Tasha (D.J.) Morrissey, Topeka; Corey Shideler, Greensboro, NC; Lindsey (Klint) Bitter, Omaha, NE; Whitney (Willie) Rice, Topeka; Casey Shideler, Lawrence, KS; Lara Shideler, Shawnee, KS; Miranda, Taylor and Madison Lingard of Topeka; step grandson Jeff (Rebecca) Bledsoe, Independence, MO; seven great grandchildren: Gracie, Gavin and Garrett Morrissey; Cora and Brynn Bitter; Hughes and Vaughn Rice; and step great granddaughter, Sophia Bledsoe.
Bob was a member of Wanamaker Woods Church of the Nazarene, Topeka, Kansas.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at Wanamaker Woods Church of the Nazarene. Burial will follow in the Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Bob will lie in state after 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Care Hospice Services, 200 SW Frazier Cir, Topeka, KS 66606.
