Robert Lee Ryder, 63, Topeka, passed away Sunday, January 5, 2014.
Robert Lee was born March 9, 1950 in Germany, the son of Mason and Edith (Kuntz) Ryder. He graduated from Dodge City High School and attended Dodge City Community College before graduating from Ft. Hays State University. He continued his education at the University of Kansas and Washburn University.
He was an active member of the Kansas Association of Public Employees, Helping Hands Humane Society and the Democratic Party.
He was currently employed by the Kansas Department of Revenue as aTax Examiner, where he had worked for over 28 years. He worked part time at Waxman Candles in Lawrence.
Robert married Sarah Steimel on April 10, 1999 in Wright, Kansas. She survives. Other survivors include his mother, Edith Fuerstack, Darmstadt, Germany; and step-brother, Bruce Ryder, Limburg, Germany. He was preceded in death by his father.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 13, 2014 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, January 12, 2014 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
