Robert M. Pardee Sr., 89, Mayetta, passed away Dec. 18, 2010 peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Brookside Retirement Center, Overbrook, KS following a short illness.
Bob was born in Richland, Kansas to Robert Burns and Etta May Stenstrom Pardee on August 19, 1921. Upon graduation from Overbrook High School, Bob served with the Army Air Corp assigned to a B-24 bomber squadron that flew reconnaissance missions in the WWII Pacific Theater. Upon his discharge from service, Bob married Ila Jean Brunner on Jan. 1, 1947 and they had four children. Bob worked at Hercules Powder Plant in Desoto, KS prior to joining Goodyear in 1958 as a mechanic until his retirement in 1984. After retirement, Bob became an avid golfer. Bob greatly loved his grandchildren and attended many of their activities. Other passions of Bob's included hunting, fishing and the KU Jayhawks. Bob was a proud member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion of Holton, Kansas.
Bob is survived by Jean, his wife of 63 years and his children, Bob Jr and Joyce Pardee, Tanya (Pardee) and John Williams, Bill and Rose Pardee, Maggie (Pardee) and Steve Rader; 5 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Gale of Brownsville, TX and Fred of Topeka, KS
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Dec.28 from 6-8pm at Calvary Lutheran Church, Topeka. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 29 at 11am at Calvary Lutheran Church. Inurnment will be at a later date. Military honors will be presented by the Kansas National Guard.
