Robert Byrd "Bob" Maupin, 88, Topeka, passed away Monday, February 18, 2013 at Midland Hospice House.
Bob was born January 11, 1925 in Pattonsberg, Missouri to Curtman and Dorothy Yates Maupin. His family moved to Topeka, Kansas in 1927. Bob attended school in Topeka and graduated from Topeka High School in 1943. He served in WWII in the Pacific Theater with the Navy Sea Bees and was discharged with rank of Gunners mate, 2nd Class. He attended University of Kansas and was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity.
He married Jacqueline Denny on November 28, 1953. Jacqueline Denny Maupin preceded him in death June of 2012. Bob loved jazz and the big band era of music. He played baseball when he was a teenager and was a loyal fan of the Kansas City Royals. He enjoyed playing golf and while his short game was excellent, he admitted he couldn't hit the ball very far. He was a good partner if you needed someone with a high handicap.
Bob started to work for Capitol Federal Savings in March of 1950. He was the manager of the first loan office in Overland Park in November 1954 and in January of 1958 was appointed Chief Lending Officer and returned to the home office in Topeka. He retired after 41 years as Chief Executive Vice President, in May 1991. Bob was a Director on the board of directors for Capitol Federal for 40 years and later served as Director Emeritus. During his time at Capitol Federal, Bob served as the first chairman appointed to the Topeka Housing Authority upon its inception. He was a past Director and President of the Topeka Country Club and a member of Shawnee Mission Rotary Club, the Topeka 20-30 Club and the Topeka Cosmopolitan Club. Prior to retiring from Capitol Federal, he served for five years on the board of the Heartland Federal Savings in Ponca City, OK.
He is preceded in death by his parents Curtman and Dorothy Maupin and his sister Shirley Linn. He is survived by his son Craig and his wife Natalie (Butler) and granddaughters, Samantha and Angela, all of Palm Desert.
A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at Mount Hope Chapel. Private inurnment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
