Robert Eugene "Gene" Nurnberg, 81, of Topeka, formerly of Emporia, Kansas, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2019.
He was born March 8, 1938, in Saffordville, Kansas, the son of Robert L. and Freida Evelyn (Bond) Nurnberg.
Gene managed the Apco Filling Station and later worked for S & S Oil Company delivering propane. Gene also operated the Truck Stop Restaurant for several years all in Emporia.
Gene married Shirley Ann Yoho in 1960. She preceded him in death on August 11, 2014. He married Sharon Wilson on June 8, 1980 in Emporia, Kansas. She survives. Other survivors include four children, Rosalie Nurnberg, Topeka, Richard Nurnberg, Topeka, Arlene (William) Moran, Holden, MO and Debbie (Mike) Zeller, Topeka; granddaughter, Crystal Fredersickson; and three great-grandchildren, Destyne, Faith and Daebrioanna; and nine siblings, Ron (Gail) Nurnberg, Emporia, Sue Sill, Wichita, KS, Rodger Nurnberg, Marion, Richard Nurnberg, Linda (Les) Potter, Emporia, Evelyn Dix, Emporia, Pat Henry, Overland Park, Elizabeth Jane Collins, Kansas City, and Nancy (Brad) Cain, Salem, OR; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Markus Scott Smith-Nurnberg on October 2, 1993; two sisters, Joanne Bunk and Judy Thomas.
Gene was a dedicated worker and enjoyed life to the fullest.

Honoring his request, cremation is planned. A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Emporia, Kansas. Dove Cremations and Funerals, Southwest Chapel in Topeka is assisting the family.
