Robert Neil Robinson, known as "Robbie," passed away on January 31, 2025, at the age of 74 in his hometown of Topeka, Kansas. Born on November 5, 1950, Robert was a lifelong resident of Topeka, where he built a legacy of service; dedication to his community and family.
Robbie had a distinguished career, serving in the Topeka Police Department from the 1970s until 2000, followed by his commitment to the State of Kansas as a Judicial Center security officer. In the Topeka Police Department he started as a Patrol Officer, advanced to Juvenile Detective and retired as a Lieutenant. Throughout his time in law enforcement, he earned the respect and admiration of both his peers and the community he served, exemplifying a strong dedication to public safety.
An alumnus of Hayden High School, from which he graduated in 1969. He attended Washburn University after High School. Robbie possessed a great sense of humor and a personality that shone brightly in the lives of those who knew him. He was known for his kindness, always looking out for others, and his strong, athletic build which complemented his spirited nature. A storyteller at heart, Robbie had a unique ability to captivate an audience with tales from his life, which were often infused with laughter.
Robbie was a passionate outdoorsman who cherished the simple pleasures of life. From engaging in slow pitch softball, where he proudly claimed first place in the Topeka City League, to pursuing his love for drawing and gardening, he embraced every moment. A devoted Kansas State football fan, his love for the sport was matched only by his deep affection for his family.
He will be deeply missed by his partner, Mary Chalk, as well as his daughter, Lisa Coen, and son, Mike (Amber) Robinson. The legacy of love continues through his four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy. He is also survived by his sisters, Mary Lou McMahon and Pam Hess, along with several nieces and nephews, all of whom carry fond memories of their beloved Robbie.
Robert was preceded in death by his father, Marshall Samuel Robinson, and his mother, Mary Alice (O'Malley) Robinson, who undoubtedly shaped the individual he became. Throughout his life, Robbie's proudest accomplishment was the love he held for his family, a testament to the bond that will endure even in his absence.
The community mourns the loss of a dedicated public servant, a loving family man, and a true friend. Robbie's spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, forever influencing his loved ones and reminding them of the importance of laughter, kindness, and love.
