Rodney Max Hayes

Rodney M. Hayes, 84, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2020.

Rodney was born February 23, 1936, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Charles and Martha (Loughmiller) Hayes. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1954 and later went on to attend Baker University. He also served in the United States Army.

Rodney was employed by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for 32 years, retiring July 1, 1997. In his youth he worked at his family's business, Oakland Hardware. He later went on to own and operate Hayes Pump Service.

Rodney was a member of the Goodyear Retirees Club, of Topeka and he was an active supporter of Washburn University's sports team. He enjoyed traveling and wood carving.

Rodney married Verna Ellis on December 27, 1956 in Topeka, KS. She preceded him in death on December 31, 2016.

Survivors include his children, Deborah (David Pruett) Hayes of Belton, MO, David Hayes and Brian Hayes both of Topeka, KS; his grandchildren, Taylor Hayes, Justin Hayes and Travis Anschutz-Hayes; two brothers, Dale (Joella) Hayes and Myron Hayes; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Janet Lewis.

Honoring Rodney's request, cremation is planned. Services are currently pending. A memorial ceremony will take place at a later date. Dove Cremations and Funerals, Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road, Topeka is assisting the family.
