Roger C. Lovelace, 70, of Topeka, passed away February 4, 2015. He was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on April 10, 1944. He attended public schools in Lincoln and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1962.
He served as a hospital corpsman in the Navy from 1962-1966. He graduated from Washburn University in 1973. He served as a deputy to the Shawnee County Sheriff from 1974-1998 and retired as a Captain. He organized the Shawnee Heights Police and served from 1998-2006. He served with the Capitol Police from 2006-2012 and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.
He married Sondra Rankin at Topeka, Kansas on May 26, 1979. She survives. He is also survived by his son Cory Lovelace; his daughter Shawna (Seth) Mitchell; his grandson Roman Mitchell; his brothers Fred (Marilyn) Lovelace and Mike (Sherri) Lovelace. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Marion Lovelace.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He also enjoyed reading and going to the movies.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1275 Boswell. A Celebration of Life will be held next summer. Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
