Ronald "Rick" Brooks, 64, of Topeka, passed away, November 22, 2011 at his daughter's home in Bradley, IL.
He was born March 10, 1947 in Memphis, TN the son of Charles Richard and Ardell Brooks. He was in the first graduating class at Topeka West High School. While at Topeka West he lettered in Track.
Following High School he became a master plumber and worked through Plumbers and Pipefitters Union local #441. He owned and operated his own business for a period and had worked for PCI of Kansas the past 20 years.
Rick thoroughly enjoyed his work. His other interests include NASCAR; his favorite driver being Jeff Gordon; football, camping, fishing, and his family. His favorite thing was Sunday dinner at Tortilla Jack's every week.
He is survived by one daughter Holly Johnson, Bradley, IL; two grandsons, Austin Alberts, Bradley, IL, R.J. Brooks, Holton, KS and one granddaughter, Judy Brooks, Holton, KS. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Brooks. Rick is also survived by several step children.
Mr. Brooks will lie in state after 3:30 p.m., Friday December 2, 2011 at the Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel. The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. that evening. A funeral ceremony will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Graveside services will follow at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Overbrook Cemetery Overbrook, Kansas.
