Ronald E. "Step" Stepanek, 84, went to be with the Lord on February 5, 2014. He was born June 9, 1929, in Ellsworth, KS, the son of Edward Stepanek and Fannie (Birka) Stepanek.
Ron graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1948 and from Kansas State University in 1951 with a degree in business administration. He was a member of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity. He then entered the Army, serving until June 28, 1953. Ron enjoyed drag racing in his younger year and was also an avid K-State sports fan.
Ron began work with Kansas Power and Light Company, now Westar Energy, in 1953, working in Salina, Abilene and Topeka, retiring as supervisor of the plant and property department in February of 1988.
After a 27-year courtship, he was married to Sharon Larson on March 25, 2011. She survives at the home. Other survivors include step-children, Gary Larson, Topeka, Sherry Jones (Bryan), Topeka, David Larson, Salina, Angie Thome (Ed), Murray, Kentucky; 7 step-grandchildren, Jennifer Jones, Joshua Jones, Allison Jones, Melissa Larson, Ben Thome, Brendan Larson and Alex Thome; one step-great-grandson, Logan Griffith; four nieces, Phyllis Bachelor (Russ), Millicent Triplett (Larry), Barbara Packer, and Marilyn Kipp (Steve); two nephews, David Knorr (Judy), and Ed Knorr (Willene); and great-nieces & nephews, Joe, Brian, Deanna, Michael, Pamela, Vickie, Peter, Andrew, Becky, Shelda, Lorinda, Frank, Shay, Jennifer, Bruce, Dan and Terri.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 15th at Dove Cremation & Funeral Service. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the National Parkinson's Foundation P.O. Box 5018 Hagerstown, MD 21741.
