Ronald Jay Francis

Ronald Jay Francis, 76, of Topeka, died on Sunday, October 27, 2013 at Stormont Vail Hospital.

Ron was born on July 6, 1937 in Council Grove to Jay and Lorena (Stalter) Francis. He graduated from Wilsey High School in 1955 and Kansas State University in 1959, with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration.
After graduation, Ron enlisted in the Army National Guard and served his country faithfully until 1966.

Ron was married to Vicki Boerrigter on July 6, 1974 in Wymore, NE; she survives of the home.

After college, Ron worked for the Continental Oil Company and not long after he began his lifelong career in the banking industry. He worked for many years in the local banking industry in Topeka and retired from Mercantile Bank, at the age of 65. He continued working part-time at Community Bank until the age of 70.

Ron was a member of Countryside United Methodist Church, where he served on the Finance Committee. He was also a member of the Topeka Rotary Club, a former President and Board Member of the Topeka Civic Theatre, the United Way of Greater Topeka as well as a former member of the Topeka Country Club. He was also a member of the KSU Alumni Association, the Kaw Valley CatBackers, and Sigma Chi fraternity.

His favorite things included watching his grandchildren participate in their various sporting and school activities, going to Washburn basketball and K-State football and basketball games. As Ron was a devoted K-State fan, the family encourages fellow K-State fans to wear the color purple on the day of the service in his memory.

Ron is survived by his wife, Vicki Francis of Topeka; daughter, Leslie (Bill) McGowan of Overland Park; son, Jim (Judy) of Topeka; five grandchildren, Connor, Trevor, and Devon McGowan and Christopher and Emma Francis; 2 brothers, Lynn (Linda) of Wilsey, KS and Ken (Vickey) of Overland Park; one sister, Karen (Steve) Lee of Council Grove; and ex-wife, Carolyn Holmes of Olathe as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A funeral service will be at 11:00a.m., Thursday, October 31, 2013 at Countryside United Methodist Church, 3221 SW Burlingame Rd. Topeka, KS 66611. A visitation will be from 5:00-7:00pm on Wednesday, October 30 at the Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd., Topeka. Interment will follow at Wilsey Cemetery in Wilsey, KS at 3:00pm on Thursday, October 31.
