Ronald Karlin, 77, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on December 16, 2015. He was born to Ferdinand and Mary (Pfannenstiel) Karlin on June 7, 1938 in Hays, Kansas. He graduated from Hays High School and completed an Associate Degree in Industrial Arts at Ft. Hays where he met the love of his life, Roberta (Moody) Karlin. They were married November 18, 1961 in Hays, Kansas. She preceded him in death in 2004.
Ron and Roberta moved to Topeka in 1964, where Ron followed his trade as a painter for 45 years before retiring. He worked on several high profile projects that he was recognized for: the Overland Station, the Capitol Building and the Governor's Residence 'Cedar Crest' to name a few. In 2005 Ron was named Craftsman of the year, which is the highest honor bestowed in his trade.
He is survived by his sons: Michael (Lora) Karlin, Timothy Karlin, Christopher Karlin; his daughter, Tiffany (Eric) Faulkner; 7 grand children: Natasha, Nicole and Lauren Karlin, Kayla and Eric Faulkner, Christopher Branham, and Shellsea (Andy) Martin; one great-granddaughter Annabelle Martin; three siblings: Norbert (Theresa) Karlin, Patty (Richard) Breer and Helen (Jerry) Breer; many nieces , nephews and cousins.
Ron enjoyed painting, woodworking and just tinkering in the barn and yard. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, his children and his siblings. Ron developed Alzheimer's and chose to remain at home with many wonderful caregivers' and St. Croix Hospice who all worked tirelessly, with much love and compassion.
Graveside Services to be held Monday, December 28th at 1:00 pm at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery will be officiated by Father Roderic Giller. Everyone is invited to attend.
